How Well Do You Understand Office Work Stations?

Most employees spend the bulk of their working time at their office desks. Workstations dedicated to the tasks and projects of a single individual provide the best environment for productivity. The same is true of the home office work station.
Both are a kind of "sacred" space organized according to the working logic of the given individual and corralling all the documents, work papers, accessories and other accoutrements they need to do their jobs.

What features should I look for in setting up a workstation?

Since you will be spending so much of your time at your workstation, you want its furnishing and arrangement to provide you with an easy, comfortable experience. After all, you or your employees could be using the space for decades. You want desks and other office furniture that is durable and low maintenance. You don't have to spend a lot but you do have to spend enough to get quality, functional pieces. Next to your office itself, your workstation setups are the most important physical consideration in your business environment.

What purposes do workstations serve?

Office work station design should be efficient, making it possible to keep all the items you need during the day close at hand. You don't want to waste time trying to find things when you need to be focused on your job. Make sure the pieces you select have adequate storage space so that organizing your office work station and keeping it that way is simple and quick. The chair you select should have adjustable ergonomic features and trays or other areas where computer keyboards will be placed for typing should also accommodate the height of the given worker. No employee can work at maximum efficiency if they are miserably uncomfortable at their desks.

What types of work stations are available?

Both single and multi-purpose workstations are available. Multi-purpose models are generally larger and enable you to use a computer and possibly a printer on or close to the desk. These units may also include shelves and extra file drawers. Single purpose work stations, on the other hand, are pieces such as dedicated computer or printer carts or stands that hold only the equipment necessary for the functions performed at that workstation. Not surprisingly, most offices employ a mixture of both types of arrangements with employee desks being multi-purpose and areas like the copy center focusing on single tasks.
