Office Desk - Choose From Wide Variety of OptionsOffice furniture desks and home office desks are the main components of any working space, large or small. Without a table tasks like writing, typing, and computer work would be extremely difficult. What purposes do office desks serve?Wooden office desks are an old standard and are now available side by side with pieces made of laminates, plastic, stainless steel and other materials. Office desks are used for the obvious purposes served by any flat work service - writing, document sorting, and as a platform for laptops or PCs. Many office desks have storage space for supplies and files and also room for various office desk accessories like staplers, pencil sharpeners, and similar working items. Many people fail to consider that a desk also serves a psychological purpose, especially if you meet with customers or clients. The desk serves to create a degree of formality between you and your customer and provides the surface on which materials are passed back and forth or displayed. During unpleasant encounters, such as dismissing an employee, the desk is an effective barrier allowing you to react professionally to the task at hand rather than personally. What kinds of office desks are popular? It is possible to find almost any desk style to suit a given space or the tastes of the individual who will use the unit. Some people actually prefer a simple table to a desk with drawers. The most traditional type desk still being used today is the roll top, a classic writing surface with a top featuring document and storage cubby holes and a flexible wooden rolling cover that can be drawn down over the surface and locked. These desks, which are designed to be placed against a wall, work best in offices where you do not want the desk to sit between yourself and your clientele.Pedestal desks are large, free-standing desks comprised of a simple working surface that is rectangular and two pedestals (really just small cabinets on which the work surface sits). Normally the pedestals contain drawers. These desks may or may not include a front piece or "modesty" panel. Writing desks are open-legged tables that usually feature one layer of shallow drawers under the writing surface. They differ from writing desks which are also open-legged but usually feature a small row of cubby holes or a top that closes. Writing desks and tables appear in modern offices usually as an ancillary piece to a traditional pedestal desk. Furniture described as "executive office desks" are normally closed front, heavy pedestal desks of dark wood with carving or similar ornamentation. Often times they are joined to a credenza by a connective piece, which itself is frequently used to house a computer system.
